Run Coaching FAQs

Have questions about how coaching works? Here are some of the things runners ask me most often.

Do you coach runners outside of New York City?

Absolutely. I coach virtually and have worked with athletes across the U.S. and abroad. Training, feedback and communication all happen through V.O2, with phone conversations as needed depending on your coaching plan.

Do I need to be training for a race?

Not at all. I coach runners training for everything from shorter races and first half marathons to full marathons and PR goals, but you do not need a race on the calendar to work with me. We can also simply “train for life” as I’ve coined it. That might mean building consistency, improving fitness, getting stronger, returning after a break, or just feeling better and more confident in your running.

Do you coach for a race cycle, base training or year-round?

All of the above. Some athletes work with me for a specific race cycle after they do their own base training. Some come to me to work together to get that base and then transition into a race cycle. Base training can be a great time to build aerobic fitness, strength, durability and consistency so you are ready to handle a more race-specific training block when the time comes. Others stay on for year-round coaching. Or we can train around non-race goals entirely! We’ll talk through your goals, schedule and what you want from coaching during your initial discovery call consultation and figure out what makes the most sense for you.

What’s the difference between Gold and Platinum coaching?

Both plans include personalized programming built around you. Gold is designed for runners who want more independence. Training is delivered in 8-week blocks, followed by a review call where we look back at how training went and plan what comes next. Platinum is for runners who want a more connected coaching relationship. I create programming week to week, review how training is going, respond quickly to comments and questions, and jump on the phone when a conversation would be more helpful than messaging. More details can be found on the Coaching Services page.

How does V.O2 work?

V.O2 is the training platform I use with my athletes. I’ve tried a lot of platforms over the years, and this is the one that best translates how I coach into something simple and easy to use. Your workouts, training paces and schedule all live there. It also lets us customize how we communicate, keeps our back-and-forth in one place, and can push workouts directly to your smartwatch. On my end, I can follow your progress through your comments and connected watch data, so I have a much clearer picture of how training is actually going.

Can I switch between Gold and Platinum?

Both plans have a 3-month minimum commitment. After that, you can switch plans or cancel with 30 days’ notice. Coaching needs can change over time, whether that’s because of your training cycle, how much support you want, or your budget. Some runners may want more hands-on support during a key race build and a more independent option at other times.

Do you offer one-time running coaching sessions?

Yes. I offer limited 1:1 running coaching sessions in NYC for runners who want focused support without ongoing monthly coaching. Sessions can include running form and efficiency feedback, pacing guidance, workout support, race preparation, strategy or help working through a specific training question.

Do you offer private guided runs in New York City?

Yes. I offer private guided runs for visitors and local runners, customized around your pace, distance, schedule and what you want to see. Routes can include Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan, the Hudson River Greenway, Riverside Park, sections of the NYC Marathon course, or a custom route starting near your hotel or neighborhood. We can keep it purely about exploring NYC on the run, or incorporate coaching, pacing or race preparation along the way.

What types of runners do you coach?

I work with adult runners building consistency, first-time marathoners, experienced marathoners who have been running for years but are ready to double down and chase a PR, runners returning after time away, and athletes who simply want more structure, purpose and accountability in their training. You do not need a certain pace or race goal. You do need to be willing to communicate, stay curious and put in the work. My coaching is especially well suited for runners who want thoughtful, personalized training that fits around a full life, plus a coach who will pay attention, help you make smart decisions and remind you what you’re capable of when you need it. I’ll be your coach, your sounding board and, yes, your cheerleader too.

Still Have Questions?

Every runner is different, and sometimes the easiest way to figure out whether coaching is a good fit is simply to talk. Reach out to schedule a free discovery call and we can chat about your goals, your running and what kind of support would be most helpful.
